Launched in 2009, Groupon is a 'deal of the day' website offering discounts and unbeatable prices on the best things to do, see, eat and buy in a variety of cities across the UK. Their company philosophy is simple: they treat their customers the way they'd like to be treated and only sell the products or services that they would in turn buy themselves.
I have always been curious about Groupon and know many friends who have used their service and as a result bagged themselves some pretty fantastic bargains, but i've never purchased any vouchers myself so when the opportunity arose to try out and review the Groupon website i jumped at the chance.
When you first land on the Groupon website, you will be prompted to enter your postcode and register. A pretty quick and straight forward process. Once in, simply select an area of interest and view the deals available.
What i learned very quickly is that Groupon acts a fantastic tool for discovering and enjoying opportunities in your local city by offering an array of discounts on things from makeup masterclasses and pamper treatments to jewellery workshops and opera tickets. Deals are offered daily and cover a range of categories to suit all budgets including beauty, healthcare, leisure, shopping, wellness, restaurants, tickets and travel.
Like a kid in a sweet shop, i eagerly began scanning the site to see what deals were on offer and then subscribed to their daily roundup email which arrived in my inbox every morning with a rather fabulous selection of tempting offers. Now, i'm not frugal or a scrooge by any means but i'm not one of these people that buys things for the sake of it, i'm careful with my money and only buy the things i really need or want, so tempted as i was i held back and waited for the perfect deal to come along my way.
And that it did!
Having recently purchased my first DSLR camera, a gorgeous Nikon D5100 i wanted to switch off auto mode and go manual so when i saw the following deal i hit the 'Buy Now' button.
I was immediately taken to a payment page where i entered my details and within 5 minutes an email landed in my inbox containing the Groupon voucher code i had ordered. I popped along to the photography course website, purchased the course in question and voila! I'm now a fully fledged photography student learning how to use my camera correctly an to its full potential.
So, would i recommend Groupon to others? Quite simply, YES! I saved an amazing 88% with my voucher, the normal cost for this particular course is £399, i got it for a steal at £49. You can't argue with that.
Their website is simple to use, easy to navigate, efficient with voucher delivery and the perfect source for bargain hunters everywhere. They even have a nifty app for your iphone or ipad that can be easily downloaded from itunes. I will definitely be using their service again.
