Little Dish Fresh Filled Pasta Review

Regular readers of Love From Mummy will know that we are HUGE fans of Little Dish and i'm excited to tell you all that their chefs have once again been busy in the kitchen cooking up some delicious new recipes. So without further ado, allow me to introduce you to their fantastic new range of bite-sized fresh filled pasta, which has been specially created with 3-7 year olds in mind.

The pasta is currently available in two varieties; Mini Ravioli with spinach and creamy ricotta and Mini Tortellini with cheese and tomato.

Both are made with 100% natural ingredients, including free range egg pasta so you can be safe in the knowledge that your little ones are getting a healthy, nutritious and well-balanced meal. (Plus it's a great way to sneak more vegetables into their diet).

Little Dish Fresh Filled Pasta is a must have for your fridge as it's perfect for those busy weekday meals and so easy to prepare. You just plunge them into boiling water, reduce to a medium heat and simmer for 3-4 minutes, drain thoroughly and then serve. They're tasty enough to eat on their own but for that little extra kick of flavour, you could choose to serve them with a simple tomato sauce or grated cheese.
Little Dish Fresh Filled Pasta is available from Waitrose stores nationwide and on Ocado.com. It is priced at £1.99 and can be found in the chilled aisle along with all of the other Little Dish range of fresh, natural meals.

Features:
©100% natural ingredients©
©No unnecessary salt ©
©No additives or preservatives ©
©Kid tested, mum approved ©
©Suitable for home freezing ©
© Each 230g packets serves 2-4 little mouths ©

So, what did we think? Well this new range gets a BIG thumbs up from us and i'm sure it will be a firm favourite with kids everywhere. The bite-sized pasta parcels are packed full of flavour and are not only the perfect size for little mouths but they also enable little ones to eat on their own. Another great addition to an already fabulous and trusted brand.

My Poorly Sick Baby

Anyone that follows my tweets and facebook statuses will know that my little man has been unwell and the past week has mainly consisted of loose nappies, soaring temperatures, scary looking rashes, no sleep and grumpy, clingy babies. Oh what fun we have had! Not! Although on the plus side i have enjoyed lots and lots of mummy cuddles.

It all started last weekend when Riley woke up with a temperature and a very loose nappy, no biggy i thought as he seemed his usual happy self so i put it down to the fact the heating was on in his room and i'd tried him on some new foods the previous day. BIG mistake. By the evening he was being grouchy, clingy, barely touching his food and had developed a fever. The thermometer was showing a reading of 38.8oC and i was adamant that couldn't be right but again and again it was the same figure being displayed.

I immediately got on to the phone to SEADOC (our local out of hours emergency doctor) and was given an appointment to take him up the hospital to be assessed. Now why do doctors make you feel like a neurotic over protective mother when you take your child in? He swiftly did the usual checks and within minutes confirmed that he had 'just' a viral infection and it was nothing to worry about. Nothing to worry about?  My baby's in just a nappy with a raging fever, lethargic and crying his eyes out and i have nothing to worry about.......does this man even have kids? Anyway, I thought he'd prescribe us some antibiotics or something to clear it up quick sharp but we were told to simply keep up the fluids, dose him up on calpol every 4 hours, give lots of cuddles and just calmly ride through the storm. It will pass. Yer ok, what parent (HONESTLY) is calm at 3 in the morning with a screaming uncontrollable child? Not me that's for sure.

Oh and as for 'it will pass', roll forward to Wednesday and i wake up to this:

A baby covered from head to toe in a rash. A baby that won't take solids. A baby that is showing no interest in milk, water or juice. A baby that doesn't want to play or be put down. A baby that is usually so happy, content and laidback but now is clingy, lethargic, crying and won't break so much as a smile. Now don't get me wrong, nobody said motherhood was going to be easy and i can fully appreciate that as a parent you have to take the rough with the smooth but 4 days of this had left me physically and emotionally drained and i'd be lying if i said my patience hadn't started to wear a little thin.

So i did what all 'neurotic over protective mothers' do, i rung the surgery at 3 in the afternoon and demanded (politely) that he be seen by a doctor. Again. However, this doctor's diagnosis was much the same and i went home feeling slightly disheartened and helpless that i couldn't do anything to take the pain away and make him feel better.

But........you know what i've realised?

Your love alone really is enough for your baby and it really is the BEST medicine. Those mummy cuddles and tight squeezes, those hours of walking back and forth cradling them in your arms and those kisses placed ever so gently on their forehead WILL work.

And it did, as he slept through last night for the first time in ages and has woken up a completely different child. No rash. No fever. No tears. No drama. Best of all - BIG smiles!

This makes for a happy baby and a VERY happy (and relieved) mummy!

When Tomorrow Starts Without Me

Today is the anniversary of a piece of my heart being taken away and so this post is dedicated to a very special lady who is loved dearly and missed terribly every single day. She was a firm believer that those we love who have died are never really gone, they're just waiting patiently for the day we can join them and as she always told me 'Love lasts forever and death knows no time'.

I hope this is true.

The poem below was read at her funeral and will always remain close to my heart.

RIP Nan 12/02/29 - 26/10/07
When tomorrow starts without me
And I’m not here to see
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me

I wish you wouldn’t cry
The way you did today
While thinking of the many things
We did not get to say

Christmas With Tesco Direct

Christmas is fast approaching and by fast I mean there is only 60 days, 14 hours, 1 minute and 43 seconds until the big day arrives, not that I’m counting or anything. The clocks go back this weekend and the nights are definitely drawing in now so it’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas gift ideas.

Now, it’s a well-known fact that us girls LOVE shopping but the thought of hitting the high street with a baby in tow. trying to avoid traffic, finding a suitable parking space (usually miles away from where you want to be), struggling to carry all your shopping around and fighting your way through long queues, crammed aisles and cold weather just does not appeal to me.

So, how about ordering presents online from the comfort of your own home and letting someone else do all the hard work for you? Tesco Direct is a one stop shop for all of your Christmas needs and they have a fantastic selection of toys and gifts available in their online catalogue. They also have a special Christmas section where you can create a wishlist to share with friends and family, purchase decorations, search for gifts by price, type or recipient and even find gifts on their partnering websites like Tesco Wine and F&F Clothing -  it’s the perfect place to purchase everything off your Christmas list in one shot without having to leave the house. (plus don’t forget all of those extra clubcard points you’ll be clocking up too!)

Their website is easy to use with a clear layout, provides great product information and availability, has a variety of delivery options to suit all and some fantastic prices and daily deals up for grabs.

With a 1 year old to buy for this year, we will be looking to source some fun activity toys that he can really engage with like the Fisher Price Disney Choo Choo Train or the VTech Toot-Toot Drivers Garage both of which are great for stimulating senses, motor skills and language development. Whats more, they’re available to purchase from Tesco Direct for amazing prices.

How will you be organising and shopping for your Christmas?

Dear Riley - 11 Months Old

Dear Riley,

Weight: TBC
Clothes Size: 6 - 9/9-12 Months
Nappy Size: Pampers Baby Dry Size 4

You are 11 months old (8 ½ months adjusted) I am starting to feel an intense need to press pause and hold on to all of the little moments which seem to be slipping by faster and faster with each passing minute. It seems like just about every day your daddy and I look at eachother and comment on how much you’re changing and growing into your own little person. It’s the most amazing thing to witness!

Your personality is evolving as you’re becoming more interactive and social. Though you have begun to express many different emotions, including anger and frustration, you are for the most part an extremely happy and smiley baby. You are such a sweet content little boy and we feel so lucky to have you in our lives.

You are still not sitting up and have no interest in doing so but you are now able to crawl/shuffle yourself forwards a few times and you’re also starting to try and stand unaided whilst holding on to something in front of you, usually your walker or the sofa.. Slow and steady wins the race as they say and we are getting there slowly. To me though, anything you do, no matter how little, is incredible and when I think about how far you’ve come in the last 11 months Riley, it astonishes me.

You are continuing to explore with different foods and believe me, you LOVE your food! I sometimes wonder where you put it all because you’re still so small and lean and hardly seem to put on any weight at all. Your favourites these days are: petit filous yoghurts, fruit (strawberries, apples, pears, bananas, mangos, peaches and grapes), muesli, cereal, chicken, lamb hotpot, spaghetti bolognaise and cheese puffs. We’re hoping to get you on chunkier food next month so you can learn to chew and try some new things.

You love books, especially those that have flip pages or textures .and your favourite one that mummy reads to you every night is The Very Humgry Caterpillar. You also love your toys, most of which end up in your mouth so I’m constantly having to clean and wash things, but the thing you LOVE THE MOST is Peppa Pig! Gosh, when that comes on the television, your head shoots round and your face lights up, I’ve even caught you giggling away to it on occasions which is the sweetest cutest thing..

You babble up a storm, saying mamamama and dadadada (though seemingly without any real meaning attached to it yet), as well as hissing like a snake (practicing your S’s) and occasionally saying nananana. Your little voice is so cute and I can’t wait to hear what you have to say.

We’ve had a record breaking month with teething as you now have 6 that have cut through but you’ve been a real trooper and hardly made any fuss at all. It is funny to see you with a mouth full of teeth when you giggle now but not quite so funny when you sink them in to mummy’s fingers. Ouch!

All in all, it’s been a good month and mummy has been busy planning and getting organised for your first birthday party next month. 1? Wow! Even now, you’re often mistaken for a newborn because of your size so I struggle to comprehend and accept that you will be 1 whole year the next time I write to you. No matter how big you get and how much you grow, you will always be mine and daddy’s baby boy and we love you dearly.

As every Riley, keep happy, keep safe and keep healthy.

See It! Snap It! Love It! - Play

This photography linky is hosted by the lovely Lucy over at Dear Beautiful Boy . A weekly challenge to look for pretty things (within a set theme) and capture them for the world to see. The theme this week is 'Play'.

Riley's getting to that stage now where he's desperately trying to be on the move and also much more interactive with people and his toys. He loves to be on the floor surrounded by his favourite things or in his walker so he's free to move around as he pleases, plus Mummy is secretly a big kid at heart so any excuse to  release my inner child is fine by me.

This photo just captures his personality brilliantly, he really is ALWAYS as happy and as cheeky as he looks. I'm truly blessed to have such a content and laidback little boy and i feel incredibly lucky that i get to stay at home with my boy every day and savour every moment of him growing up.

If you feeling like having a go and joining in with the challenge yourself, then click the badge below and link up your post over at Dear Beautiful Boy.

Happy Snapping Everyone!!!

Kimber Kids 'Bobbie & Friends' Toys Review

Kimber Kids is a British company specialising in developmental and engaging products for babies and toddlers aged 0-3 years. The company is built around a strong set of core values, with a primary focus not only on developing  fun, inspiring and educational products but also embracing new technology through innovative website and app development.

Their latest collection 'Bobbie & Friends' which launched in John Lewis last month, is a range aimed at babies and toddlers and Kimber Kids very kindly offered to send us a selection of their toys for review.
Bobbie & Friends consists of a variety of infant, activity and character toys which have been specially designed to make learning and discovering fun. The range introduces children to three adorable friends; Bobbie the bear, Katy the cat and Bobo the rabbit, all of which have their own personalities and are bright, colourful and very cute characters. They also encourage interaction and engagement from your little ones and play a vital role in developing key skills in the following areas:
*Hearing sense*Visual stimulation*Hand-eye coordination*Fine motor skills*Sensory development*Self awareness*

 Soft Squeaker Toy
This soft plush toy with squeaker is available in 3 different designs and is made from colourful and textured fabrics so helps your little one to develop touch and visual sensory.

It's the perfect size for Riley's little fingers to hold on to and enables him to easily get a good grip. Like most things at the moment, it goes straight into his mouth for some serious chomping and teething relief......but this has actually revealed the true quality and durability of the toy as it's left no visible marks or damage.

RRP £3.99 Suitable for 3 months +

Play Stacker
This plush fabric play stacker features character rings which can be slided onto the central rattle.

Again, it's made from colourful, textured fabrics so great for stimulating Riley's sight and sense of touch and is also helping to improve his hand-eye coordination through the stacking action.

RRP £14.99 Suitable for 6 months and over.

Talking Beanie
This 8" talking beanie is available in Bobbie, Katy or Bobo characters and is just utterly adorable. Riley absolutely LOVES the Bobbie version we were sent and it now accompanies us everywhere.

You have to squeeze Bobbie's green ear to listen to him speak and the voice is actually really cute, not annoying like some of the other talking toys available on the market. He says a variety of phrases but Riley's favourite is definitely the 'peek a boo' one, we play this game all the time together so now Bobbie is incorporated into the fun.

RRP £6.99 Suitable for 6 months and over

All in all, the range is great and i will definitely be purchasing more of their products and recommending them to other parents. Riley has thoroughly enjoyed playing with the toys we received and better still, i know he's having fun whilst learning new skills and developing his senses at the same time.

For those interested in Kimber Kids or looking for further information on their range of products you would usually be able to visit their website at www.kimberkids.co.uk but it's currently undergoing development work. So in the mean time, why not pop along to their facebook page to be kept informed and up to date with the company's latest news.

Disclosure: I was sent a selection of Kimber Kids 'Bobbie & Friends' toys for the purpose of this review but all views and opinions expressed are honest and entirely my own.

See It! Snap It! Love It! - Animals

This photography linky is hosted by the lovely Lucy over at Dear Beautiful Boy . A weekly challenge to look for pretty things (within a set theme) and capture them for the world to see. The theme this week is 'Animals'.

We moved in to our current home back in May and i said then how incredibly lucky we were to be living in a quiet little village surrounded by beautiful countryside and next door to my dad's farm. Riley and i regularly go for strolls along the lane or down to the yard to visit the cows, sheep and chickens but did i also mention that my garden backs on to woodland? (we seriously have THE perfect home).

Now i love this time of year......... harvest is ending, the leaves are changing, there's that crisp smell in the air......... and all of these elements seem to have brought a couple of furry friends in to our garden.

See It! Snap It! Love It! - Colour

This photography linky is hosted by the lovely Lucy over at Dear Beautiful Boy . A weekly challenge to look for pretty things (within a set theme) and capture them for the world to see. The theme this week is 'Colour'.

Firstly i'd like to congratulate our host Lucy on the recent birth of her beautiful baby girl, the perfect addition to their already beautiful family.

Now back to the task in hand.....colour. I didn't need to look far for inspiration as i've been getting creative at home in preparation for Riley's first birthday.

Groupon Review

Launched in 2009, Groupon is a 'deal of the day' website offering discounts and unbeatable prices on the best things to do, see, eat and buy in a variety of cities across the UK. Their company philosophy is simple: they treat their customers the way they'd like to be treated and only sell the products or services that they would in turn buy themselves.

I have always been curious about Groupon and know many friends who have used their service and as a result bagged themselves some pretty fantastic bargains, but i've never purchased any vouchers myself so when the opportunity arose to try out and review the Groupon website i jumped at the chance.

When you first land on the Groupon website, you will be prompted to enter your postcode and register. A pretty quick and straight forward process. Once in, simply select an area of interest and view the deals available.

Silentnight Bounceback Pillows Review

With no introduction needed, Silentnight is not only one of the leading brands worldwide for beds and home comfort, but is also one of the most recognised bedding companies too. With a vast range of quality bedding products suitable for children and adults, overlooking Silentnight products is something that quite simply, should not happen.

I wrote here about the 'Shattered Britain' study conducted by Silentnight. The results showed that 75% of UK residents aren't getting a decent night's sleep and the nation's health and well-being is suffering. 10% of us are now classed as insomniacs (myself included) and 10 million NHS prescriptions are issued every year for drugs to get us to sleep. Again, i include myself in that statistic as due to an underlying medical condition i take a daily concoction of drugs to ease the symptoms, one of which is insomnia/sleep disturbance.

Silentnight believes that everyone deserves a good night's sleep and a good bed, mattress and pillows can really make the difference. In conjunction with their study, they very kindly sent me a pair of their bounceback pillows to review.
Now the Mr is lucky, he's one of these people that can fall asleep anywhere, drifts off to the land of nod easily and generally remains in his slumber until either Riley stirs in the night or the alarm goes off in the morning. I on the otherhand am the complete opposite, i lay awake tossing and turning or staring blankly at the ceiling and even when i do eventually drift off to sleep, it's a light one and i wake up frequently throughout the night. I'm also very particular about my pillows so was keen to put these sample ones to the test.

These special 'bounceback' pillows from Silentnight claim to spring back to life after all night use and maintain long term comfort........and you know what? That's exactly what they do! I was pleasantly surprised that when i settled down for the night, my head sank softly into the bounceback pillow and remained there quite comfortably. Their polyester cotton cover gives them that little extra element of comfort and the hollowfibre filling makes them plump, supersoft and provides good support for the head, neck and shoulders. As a long term sufferer of chronic fatigue, muscle pain and back problems these aspects of the pillow's design make them a winner in my eyes.
Plus, as the name suggests and true to their word, as soon as i took my head off the pillows in the morning they bounced straight back into shape.

Features:
*Medium/Firm Support
*70% polyester and 30% cotton cover
*100% polyester hollowfibre filling
*Suitable for tumbledrying

If you're looking for soft, plump and comfortable pillows that are full of fluffiness, retain their shape and are great value for money, then these bounceback pillows from Silentnight are definitely the ones for you. Visit their site for further information.

You can visit Silentnight at: www.silentnight.co.uk
You can follow Silentnight on Twitter at: www.twitter.com/silentnightbeds

Shattered Britain And The Silent Revolution

The Silent Revolution - A Sound Night's Sleep for All
How did you sleep last night?
Did you wake up on the right side of the bed and full of the joys of life this morning? Or could you be better compared to a bleary eyed zombie with a headache and crankiness after little to no sleep? If so, you're not alone. In fact you're 1 of 35 million people across the UK who are part of what is being termed as 'Shattered Britain'.

The new Shattered Britain study, commissioned by leading bed manufacturer, Silentnight, found that despite being fully aware of how important a good night's sleep is, a massive three quarters (75%) of today's time-poor, stressed society is not getting its recommended eight hours - and this is impacting on work, health and relationships.

The research shows that:
*30% say they can't concentrate on their work and are stuck in a foggy, inefficient bubble.
*46.5% complained that a lack of sleep gave them headaches with 31% saying it left them feeling anxious and depressed.
*25% believed that the lack of sleep left them susceptible to coughs and colds.
*Two thirds of UK adults say they are grumpy without their eight hours.
*50% admitted to losing their patience with their family and an increase in arguments due to lack of sleep.
*21% confess to cutting or burning themselves when preparing dinner and more worryingly, 18% say they have walked in to a door when tired.

Silentnight is aiming to get the nation back on its feet and sleeping well again with its new The Silent Revolution campaign encouraging a great night's sleep for all. The brand knows sleep better than anyone else and its commitment to product innovation means the UK's leading bed manufacturer is now on a mission to help the nation enjoy a comfortable, restful night, every night.
The Silent Revolution campaign is calling for the government to remove VAT on all British made beds and mattresses, making them zero rated for a better night's sleep for all.

Dr Nerina Ramlakhan, author of Tired but Wired, Sleep Therapist at Capio Nightingale Hospital and spokesperson for Silentnight, said: "We all know how important a good night's sleep is, and the Shattered Britain study shows just what an impact a lack of sleep seems to have on us all.

"Sadly it can have a detrimental effect on work, health and relationships which is compounded by the stresses and strains of our daily lives. But the Silent Revolution campaign is on the right road to helping the nation be fully rested."

You can find out more about the campaign or join in and sign their e-petition at www.thesilentrevolution.co.uk

What are your thoughts on the research carried out by Silentnight? Do you agree/disagree with their findings?
